Surgical services include skin cancer removal, mole removal, cyst excision, and other procedures requiring surgical intervention. Cosmetic services address aging, sun damage, wrinkles, age spots, and aesthetic concerns. They specialize in treating skin of all tones and recognize how conditions present differently across darker and lighter skin.

Are the dermatologists experienced in treating darker skin tones?

Yes. River Ridge Dermatology emphasizes culturally sensitive care for patients with darker and lighter skin. Their dermatologists are trained to recognize that conditions like acne, hyperpigmentation, eczema, and rosacea present differently in darker skin, and that cosmetic treatments, medications, and procedures can have different effects based on skin tone. They tailor treatment plans to each patient's unique color, tone, texture, and hair type to ensure safe, effective care and optimal results.

Do they see children and teenagers?

Yes. River Ridge Dermatology provides comprehensive pediatric and teen dermatology care. For children, they treat common conditions like eczema, acne, warts, and rashes, as well as rare genetic skin disorders. They work with families to find treatment plans that ease the strain of managing a child's skin condition. For teenagers, they specialize in acne treatment—including blackheads, whiteheads, inflammatory acne, and cystic acne—with the goal of preventing lifelong scarring and protecting self-esteem. They also help teens develop healthy, long-term skincare routines.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

At your first visit, expect a thorough skin examination by a board-certified dermatologist. The team is known for taking time to carefully examine your skin, listen to your concerns, and explain findings in a compassionate, professional manner. If you're coming for a specific issue (acne, rash, suspicious mole), bring a list of current medications and any prior treatments you've tried. If you're coming for a full-body skin cancer screening, wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to all areas. The staff is praised for making patients feel comfortable and addressing concerns with care and professionalism.

    What Customers Love

I really liked this place, but I had to canceled an appointment due to a outstanding issue. Weeks in advance I've tried calling to reschedule multiple times. Most times the call gets dropped after the directory is chosen. A few times I have been able to leave a voice mail. I have never received the first call back. I am moving on.

I had a screening with Jonathan Fraim. Everyone was very nice but . . . the appointment was rushed. I had to point out a lesion that was concerning. He lifted my gown here and there and addressed my scalp itching. He was ready to leave and I asked what about the lesion? He hurriedly scrapped for a biopsy that turned out to be BCC. I mentioned another place on my forehead he didn't check. Didn't feel like I had a thorough screening for sure. I went to another dermatology and guess what? That other forehead lesion very clearly seen is also BCC. You also can't get anyone to answer their terrible phone system, can't leave a message and the portal doesn't work. I've tried to return a call with no luck. I will go to Carilion Dermatology for my Mohs surgery. They are wonderful and available and they answer the phone and portal. I trust them.

A few weeks ago I had an 8 am appointment with Dr Godwin. I arrived early like I do for all my appointments. I was surprised that the lights weren't even on inside the reception area. I was standing outside at 7:59 am with another patient who also had an 8 am appointment. We were both shocked that the door was not unlocked until 8. That's when the lights were also turned on. I'm a dental professional. We start seeing patients at 7:30 am. Our door is unlocked for patients no later than 7:10. So... I'm finally inside the building, but I still have to check in for my 8 am appointment. I SHOULD ALREADY BE IN THE ROOM AT 8 AM! The assistant called me back and started asking the important questions and Dr Godwin comes in and says, " OH.. you're not ready yet", shuts the door and leaves. Of course, I'm not ready. You didn't let me in the building for my 8 am appointment until 8 am on the dot. Obviously, that means I'm already late by the time I'm called back. When Dr Godwin comes back in he's smiling and checking me as quickly as he can for my all over skin check. I asked about freezing some hyperkeratotic lesions on my back and he agreed. I also asked about putting cortisone in a scar to flatten it and he said he could do that. Then ...in the hurry he was in...he started to leave the room. I said, "what about freezing the lesions on my back"? He said, "oh, right", shut the door, and froze those lesions, and out he went. The cortisone for the scar never came up, again. Let me make this perfectly clear. I really like Dr Godwin and I don't blame him for this rushed experience at all. He is obviously doing what he's told to do as quickly as possible to move on to the next patient. No doctor can be as thorough as they NEED to be under those circumstances and it is especially of concern to me because I've had EVERY skin cancer including a melanoma. If you start your morning off late for a jam packed schedule you'll be behind all day. If you don't turn on the lights and open the doors until 8 am for 8 am patients you're behind from the very beginning of your day. I actually talked to my PC about a referral elsewhere, but I feel like this is a problem everywhere these days. AND I like Dr Godwin enough to try, again. For goodness sake, River Ridge, do yourselves and your patients a huge favor and open the office in time to get the first patients of the day in the rooms by their appointed times! AND....give your doctors the time they need to be thorough.... especially when they're trying to find cancer on my skin! The bottom line is NOT the money.... it's the care of the many people who come to you for their health.

It was my first visit at a dermatology office and Sarah Anderson made me feel extremely comfortable. She was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. She was very attentive and made me feel like she cares about her patients and listened while I voiced my concerns. I was met with solutions and a plan. The office itself is extremely nice, clean and comfortable. All other staff were friendly as well. I would recommend!
