Why We Started Lantern
We're on a mission to serve Main Street. We've spent our careers building technology companies and investing in communities. When we saw how fast AI was changing the way people find local businesses, we spotted an important need to make sure local businesses don't get left behind. Lantern exists to make sure the businesses that make our communities great are the ones AI recommends.
Jay Ashton
Co-Founder
Jay has built multiple technology companies including Revinate, a hospitality platform trusted by thousands of hotels worldwide and backed by top-tier venture investors, and startups across travel, health, and consumer apps.
Jay believes local businesses are the cornerstone of communities. He started Lantern after recognizing that AI has fundamentally changed how people choose local businesses — and that most owners don’t have the time to keep up. Lantern is their unfair advantage. Jay holds a BA from Williams College and an MBA from UVA’s Darden School of Business.
Matt King
Co-Founder
Matt is a consummate builder of communities and downtowns. Over the past two decades, he founded multiple real estate platforms specifically targeting commercial and residential investments adjacent to universities and urban city centers - all promoting walking and supporting local businesses.
Matt views Lantern as a great tool for local businesses to compete in an increasingly competitive environment. He holds a BA from Washington and Lee University and an MBA from Vanderbilt.
