“We started going to Mill Creek almost one year ago. We have a crew of 4, and up until now, only 2 have gone. I was already extremely impressed with how they treated Elvis when I came for a mass removal in his mouth that had previously been removed but came back. They were attentive, careful, and compassionate, they let him have his Lambchop, and they had amazing communication with me throughout and after the procedure. They did phenomenal with our lab Sunny (a rescue that comes from a difficult past), and it was the first time she willingly went up to people and wasn’t super shut down and scared. She was *wagging* by the end of the visit. These two interactions alone already had me telling everybody that would listen to switch to MCVC *immediately.* But I think Friday’s visit takes the cake. I brought my oldest dog, Buster. He’s a little over 8, and extremely reactive. Mostly toward other animals, but as a rescue with a past and some unpleasant interactions as a young adult, tends to have some slight reactivity to humans he doesn’t know/trust. Life with Buster hasn’t always been the easiest- especially when it came to vet visits. He’s been muzzled, he’s barked, he’s lunged, it’s always been a really unpleasant and stressful experience for everyone involved. Which breaks my heart. So going into today’s first wellness visit with MCVC, I definitely had nervous sweats 😂 My husband went in first and let the front desk know we were here, but that Buster struggled with reactivity. They came out to talk to me, and gave me a game plan to get him inside and on a scale, and then in a room. It made entering the building SO easy. When George came into the room, she had a great demeanor and was so relaxed and easy going. She gave Buster some treats, didn’t put her focus directly on him, and just kept doing her thing. I think the way she presented herself made it easier for Buster to realize that nobody was there to focus on him and make him feel “small.” He was able to slowly adjust to a strange presence and was given the time and space he needed to realize he was safe. Honestly, with how many treats she was giving, I’m pretty sure she became Buster’s new bestie 😂 When Dr. Scheller came in to start the exam, Buster let out a few barks, but she presented herself in a relaxed manner that you could tell Buster didn’t feel threatened. More treats came. He calmed down. She did the exam confidently and without issue. It was also the first time I felt like an exam wasn’t rushed. Dr. Scheller took her time, asked questions, made comments, chatted with me about previous and current concerns (and gave amazing insight/feedback), and really paid attention to him. I was so shocked. THAT is how an exam should be. It felt like for the first time of pet ownership, someone was truly listening. Truly above and beyond level service. It was the first time EVER that Buster hasn’t lunged, didn’t need to be muzzled, didn’t act completely stressed out, and that I truly felt like the doctor and her staff understood how to handle dogs on a deeper level. He even was in their faces but he wanted to give kisses, not do any harm. And they didn’t shy away. They let him feel loved and in turn, you could tell he was slowly trusting them. I don’t write reviews. I should… I never do. But when I left there, the first thing I did was text my mom and say “Just finished up, I could literally cry because of how happy and impressed I am with how the visit went and how they treated him.” And the fact that I felt that level of confidence in the level of care I received? That deserves a review. I continue to be more and more pleased with MCVC with every interaction, and have never felt more confident about the level of care my dogs are receiving there. Being introduced to them has been an absolute blessing, and I hope I can convince some more pet parents along the way to entrust in them. For the first time in ~7 years, I came away from a Buster vet appointment smiling. Thank you, Dr. Scheller + crew. 💙”

“Switched to Mill Creek for my cat’s primary care just recently. He was super nervous during the check up to the point of hissing at me and the vet, but they were completely unbothered and were extremely gentle with him. He ended up needing a teeth extraction, which I scheduled a few weeks after the checkup. This was my first time having to drop him off at the vet and leave him, and honestly I was more of a mess than he was. Staff was SUPER communicative, empathetic, answered every question I had (and I had a lot). Surgery went well and when I came to pick him up one staff member had even taken a few photos of him for me in the recovery period. Highly recommend, great staff, fantastic care. You can tell they really care about the pets and their families that they serve. My boy is on the mend and doing great. Thank you Mill Creek!”

“This place is amazing. I adopted my cat Aero through RACC, and he was in severely bad condition. His condition was downplayed by shelter staff, and I was immediately hit with vet bill after vet bill. I moved from Richmond to Charlottesville, & I met a vet tech named Kimberly at pet smart in town & she recommended I come by her job (mill creek) and they IMMEDIATELY figured out what was wrong with him and got him back to being a cat, without financially ruining me! I highly recommend this place, all the staff are super nice and amazing to work with. Occasionally they get busy and it’s a bit of a wait, but because they’re so awesome I understand why they’re so busy! Thank you guys for giving my baby a second chance at life ❤️ (pictures are before & after mill creek!)”

“We can’t say enough good things about Mill Creek! The team took such incredible care of our senior pup, Hachi, with kindness, patience, and true compassion. Every visit feels personal, they never rush us, always explain things clearly, and treat Hachi like one of their own. It’s clear that everyone genuinely loves what they do- from the front staff (shout out to Kim and Whit) to the vet techs (we love George) to the doctor's themselves (Dr. Scheller and Dr. Simms are both amazing). As Hachi has aged, having a vet team we trust completely has meant everything.”

“I can’t say enough good things about this clinic. We had never been here before, but when our dog’s health declined suddenly, they were able to see us right away. The entire staff was incredibly compassionate, patient, and gentle as they helped us navigate one of the hardest moments a pet owner can face. Even though they didn’t know us or our dog, they treated us as if we had been long-time clients. They explained everything clearly, gave us time to say goodbye, and created a peaceful, dignified environment for our sweet pup’s final moments. It was an emotional day, but their kindness made an impossible situation just a little easier. I’m so grateful for the care and respect they showed our family. Highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for truly compassionate veterinary care.”
