Since 2003, the Lexington School of Music® has been the premier destination for music education in South Carolina, teaching over 1,600 students from ages 4 to adult. As a division of the Columbia Arts Academy®, the state's largest music school, they've earned more awards than any other music school in the Midlands and built a reputation trusted by thousands of families. Students travel from Charlotte, Augusta, and Charleston to study at their three locations in Columbia, Lexington, and Irmo, drawn by their unmatched faculty, facilities, and proven track record of excellence spanning over twenty years.

The school employs 70 music teachers—all with either college training or professional performance experience—making them the largest and most qualified teaching faculty in Lexington. With at least three teachers per instrument, students are matched with instructors who fit their learning style and musical goals. They offer lessons in guitar (electric and acoustic), piano (acoustic pianos in every room), voice and singing, drums, bass, violin, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele—all under one roof. Lessons are available seven days a week with the most flexible scheduling in the region: 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and extended hours on weekends.

The Lexington School of Music® has invested heavily in creating the most technologically advanced lesson experience in South Carolina. Every lesson room features LED monitors with device connectivity for iPods, iPads, and laptops, enabling teachers to incorporate music apps, GarageBand, ProTools, and other cutting-edge software into lessons. The 3,000+ square foot facility includes soundproofed rooms, observation windows on every door, a spacious parent lounge with Wi-Fi and refreshments, and rooms fully stocked with amps, full drum kits, keyboards, and acoustic pianos—students only need to bring their instrument.

As an Official Safety Plan Music School, they prioritize student safety with glass observation windows on all lesson rooms, full-time office staff ensuring students and teachers are never unsupervised, extensive background checks for all staff, security cameras in all rooms, and an open-door policy welcoming parents to sit in on lessons anytime. Twice yearly, students can participate in free recitals held at world-class venues like the Koger Center for the Arts and Columbia College, complete with grand Steinway pianos, red carpets, and professional acoustics. Their students also earn trophies, certificates, and achievement wristbands as they progress through their musical journey.

    What Customers Love

The Lexington School of Music is an important part of my life and my children. We all began violin lessons and my son ventured to guitar lessons with Mr. Alec. My son is now in college and continues the lessons with Mr. Alec and loves the experience! My girls and I have truly loved working with Mrs. Emily for the violin lessons! She is patient, kind, a great instructor and fun! As an adult learner, Mrs. Emily has been amazing for me! She answers all my questions and is helping me to develop into a real violinist. Her encouragement helped me to perform in my first recital, something I would have never done on my own! I am so excited about what I am learning! I highly recommend the Lexington School of Music!

My daughter takes voice lessons with Ms. Megan. She is friendly, super talented and encouraging!! My girl loves every bit of it and enjoys classes with her. The front desk staffs are warm, welcoming and glad to help. It’s only my initial months here, but we feel very safe and comfortable sending my daughter to this music school. We are going to go a long way with Lexington School Of Music!!

My children and I love Lexington School of Music. The staff and teachers are very friendly and knowledgeable. My youngest daughter has been taking piano and voice lessons for 8 years now, she started at their Rosewood location. And now my granddaughter is taking piano lessons. I would highly recommend any one of their music studios.

Our 7 year old has been taking guitar lessons from Mr. Jackson at the Lexington location (and virtually) for about 2 years now. He is very shy and quiet, but Mr. Jackson has worked hard to create a bond with him. Mr. Jackson even got him to go on stage for the recital this past summer, which honestly shocked us, and we were so proud and happy for him! Our son has learned so much from Mr. Jackson--he's shown great improvement in his music and guitar skills, and also his confidence! That means the world to us! Alyssa has also been wonderful, super-kind, and very helpful in helping us schedule sessions and whatever else we need. Couldn't love y'all more!!

My children have been attending Lexington School of Music for over 3 years now and they still LOVE it! The teachers are so energetic and fun. They feel like part of the family. The kids look forward to lessons all week and practice without any prodding from me. They are learning songs that they choose and are excited about. The recitals are held twice a year and are actually fun (and painless!). They run in hour increments so you only sit through 20 or so students instead of 200. It's brilliant! We love taking music lessons here and will continue to do so for many years to come.
